Recruit-a-Friend FAQ
February 1st, 2012
What is Recruit-A-Friend?
Recruit-A-Friend, or RAF, is a system that rewards you for bringing people to TruWoW. The more the merrier, right? Each account that you recruit will gain 3x XP while in a group with you.

So what do I get out of this?
Is 3x XP not enough? Well then, you get a Zhevra. Not just any ol' Zhevra, though. A Swift Zhevra.

Sweet! When do I get it?
On Blizzard servers, you received the Zhevra when your friend subscribed to WoW. Obviously, that doesn't work for us. Instead we require the following to obtain the mount:
  • You need to gain experience equal to levels 1-60 while in a group gaining 3x XP with your friend.
  • Your friend needs to reach level 70.
This XP is counted from all characters on the recruited account. If you are in a group with more than one recruit, the XP counts towards the requirement for all recruits.

Can I recruit myself to get 3x XP?
No. Doing so will result in a 1 month ban for all accounts related to the exploiter. Repeatedly doing so will result in longer and longer bans.

What about recruiting someone who already plays here?
Still no. The punishment is the same as above.

I have a friend that played here a while ago, but he never made it to 70 and hasn't played in a long time. Can I recruit him?
Yes, but he will have to start a new character.

When do I get extra XP?

  • While in a group (not a raid group) with your recruit.
  • While 4 levels or less apart.
  • While below level 60.
  • While within 100 yards of each other.

Do I get anything else?
Yes! While either character is below level 60 you can summon the other to your location. (Note that this has a one hour cooldown.) The command to do so is '.raf summon' (minus the quotes).

Does the bonus XP last forever?
No. You only gain triple XP within the first 90 days of the account being created. You get to keep your mount forever, though.

Can't people exploit this?
We have done our best to make sure that people can't. You cannot gain triple XP while both characters are being played from the same IP. We're sorry to any legitimate players that this hurts, but it is easily the most effective way to cut down on exploiting. (A note from Atlanis: If you find a previously-unknown way to exploit this system and report it to the staff, I will give you 1000g out of my own pocket and won't ban you :o)

If I recruit someone, and then he recruits someone else, does he get a mount? And would I get extra XP for being a group with both of them?
Yes and no, respectively. He would get a mount for recruiting someone else, however the maximum XP multiplier is always 3x, no matter how many recruits and recruiters you have in your group.

Will the XP bug if more than two people with an RAF link are in a group?
No. The people who should get triple XP will (even if there are 3 or more), and the people who don't have a friend recruited won't.

How does my friend sign up?
On the registration page is a field named 'Recruiter Character Name'. Have them put the name of one of your characters in that field and it will link your accounts. NOTE: After account creation it is impossible to change who recruited you! Make sure that the name is spelled right! The link is created from account to account, so even if the character used to recruit is deleted or moved later, the link between the two accounts will continue to exist.

Known Bugs

  • Discovery XP sometimes gets tripled.
  • If you log out while in a group, you must drop group and reenter in order to turn triple XP back on.
  • The Combat Log often shows you as getting +0 Recruit-A-Friend XP.

NOTICE: This system has not been subjected to a large-scale test. The Tru-WoW staff has spent quite a bit of time testing it to make sure that there are no usable exploits or other issues, but if we discover any major issues with it we can and will remove it without warning or recompense.

TO THOSE WHO DONATED FOR THE SWIFT ZHEVRA: If any of you are really upset with offering the Swift Zhevra as the reward for this, please let us know. We are considering the possibility of offering a different mount for this.

Website Move
January 16th, 2012
We've moved the website from http://tru-wow.com to http://truwowonline.com. This may or may not be a permanent move. There is a redirect set up to move people from the old URL to the new one, so we shouldn't lose any traffic.

If anyone is using Google Chrome, they may have noticed that it warns them about the site containing malware. That is the reason for the move. Atlanis has removed the malware and taken measures to prevent it reappearing. He has put in a request with Google to recheck the website. UPDATE: Google's recheck of the site came up clean.

If you uploaded anything to the forums today (Jan. 15, 2012) you may have to upload it again. All posts, topics, reputation, etc made it over, but not necessarily all users images.

Official 2.4.3 TBC enUS torrent
January 13th, 2012
IF YOU DON'T HAVE A 2.4.3 CLIENT:
The torrent features a clean, pre-installed 2.4.3 TBC enUS client, with the realmlist already set to truwowonline.com. It requires no patching or installing whatsoever. Once you've finished downloading, make sure that you DO NOT run Launcher.exe. Use Wow.exe to start the game.

It also includes a script that clears your cache folder, quite handy. The name of this is DelCache.bat. Simply run it and it will delete your cache folder. You can make a short cut to it on your desktop for easy cache deletion.

The torrent can be found here : http://thepiratebay....torrent/6753725
Give the torrent a +1 and comment on it so that people that search for burning crusade clients are brought here :3

If you want to help seeding, try copying the data folder you already have into the torrent destination (Close bittorent first ofc). If you happen to have the same files as me, it will skip those huge files and let you start seeding right away.

Remember to seed for others when you're done downloading!

If the torrent doesn't work for some reason, consult this guide.

IF YOU DO HAVE A 2.4.3 CLIENT:
Simply locate your WoW installation directory and modify the realmlist.wtf file to match the following:

set realmlist truwowonline.com

Now just run Wow.exe (NOT Launcher.exe) to log in and play!
Note: There should be no text besides what is written above in your realmlist.wtf
